Stage 3 : Electrical things to buy

Washing Machines...Front Loaders or Top Loaders

There are few major electrical appliances that I need to shop when moving into my home, and washing machine is one of it . To be honest , I have no experience at all before this for buying such expensive appliances.I have always tagged front loader washing machines as being high class, because of their price, and also because my parents are using a top loader and so are most of my friends. When shopping for a washing machine, I did some eagle-eye and came across a number of advantages that front loaders have over top loaders:
  1. More gentle on clothes; a front loader works like a human washing clothes, it turns half a circle, and let the clothes drop down by their own weight, and hence pressing against each other like a human would have washed it. Because gravity plays much a bigger role, the front loader spins very slowly during the wash cycle. Compare that to a top loader, usually the clothes will "stick" to one side when the top loader spins the clothes, hence top loaders will need to spin faster during the wash cycle, and some will have this jerking motion to make sure your clothes dun stick to each other.
  2. Use less water; as the clothes are continuously "dropped" from top to bottom, the drum do not need to be completely filled by water, and the usual front loaders will just fill the drum to a maximum of 1/3 the drum capacity. In a top loader, to ensure that all clothes are wet, the whole drum will need to be filled.
  3. Use less electricity, because the wash speed is slower and less water is used, less electricity are used as well.
  4. More quiet and stable, because of the low wash spin speed.
Well, it have some bad points as well:
  1. Expensive, from my survey, usually it costs 50% to 100% more expensive than top loaders.
  2. People have claimed that for a front loader, you can't open the door halfway of the cycle to add some items, but I never found the need for this anyway.
If you want to know more, I found these few websites to provide the best information on washing machine comparison:
