Solar Eclipses

"When the Sun meet Moon in Heavens"

The eclipse was unbelievable. Absolutely incredible. i watch it live on nasa website.. Wow..it was completely a new experience for me..i jus felt like i was there in china with a telescope..all thanks to the nasa..for showing a live webcast..

Solar eclipses have been recorded as important events by humans for millennia. References have been found in some of our earliest texts, including ancient Chinese academic documents .It's easy to imagine how our earliest ancestors must have reacted to the sudden disappearance of the sun, and over time the phenomenon has been seen as both fascinating and terrifying, a signal of the displeasure of the gods, or an omen of bad things to come.

Photos show the different stages of a solar eclipse above the Jiayuguan fortress along the Great Wall of China on August 1, 2008. The eclipse achieved totality (shown in the last frame) for just over two minutes. The Solar Eclipse on August 1st 2008 throws its Shadow across allof Europe, most of the Middle East, Russia, and Asia (including China and large sections of Indochina).
Total solar eclipses are rare events. Although they occur somewhere on Earth every 18 months on average, it has been estimated that they recur at any given place only once every 370 years, on average. The total eclipse only lasts for a few minutes at that location, as the Moon's umbra moves eastward at over 1700 km/h.

But i realize that some cultures have superstitions, but seriously, none of them are true. Some believe that a lunar eclipse signifies that there is a closing of a bad time in your life so u cant do anything on this time. That's ridiculous. of course; they have no effect on anything with the trivial exception of a slightly higher tide.

Anyway it was a wonderful event worth watching…i enjoyed the NASA’s exploratarium…!!!!!!!! Mind-blowing coverage and the next one there will be eclipses on January 26, 2009 and July 22, 2009. The January one can be seen in southern Africa and south Asia, while the July 2009 eclipse will be seen in most of Asia.Fantastic. Can’t wait for the next one .
