Beaten but unbowed - the sixth European Cup will have to wait!!!

THE dream is over.We won't be going to a third Champions League final in four years. But we went pretty damn close.

So it hurts deep deep inside but the lads did me proud so lets not start pointing fingers ,should hold our heads up high ok the luck wasnt with us and maybe Rafa wasnt spot on with his tactics.. It was a devastating blow at Stamford Bridge last night. What a feat it would have been to make that final three out of the last four years. But there was always a suspicion that 1-1 at anfield, and giving them an away goal, gave us too much to do.And that proved to be the case.I don't think we can have too many complaints about the result. From my point of view we had a good geme & the ref had a good game too.Yes, it was a pen for theirs, silly challenge by Sami that, and our two shouts, Hyppia's and Babel's, they were rightly waved away.Man of the match for us i could say down Carragher, who defended like the Carra of old.Not far behind was Gerrard who manfully tried to drag us back into the game, but was let down by others around him.Mascherano was half decent, wonderfully committed who continually asked for the ball, even though his distribution in the first half was poor.

Collectively in the first 45 we were very poor and we let the watery conditions get to us. Only in the second half did we step up(as step-up xabi alonso in Istanbul), and after Torres scored, there was a 25 minute of opportunity where we grew in confidence and they looked shocked. We didn't grab that chance. On the downside, Kuyt ended his run of good form with an poor game. He's been great recently, but workrate just isn't enough as i critisize always on the right side & mostly he played at left .Benayoun let the game with the brilliant work for our goal apart, Torres desperately needed a second striker and looked forlorn and Alonso again could'n found his "killer pass" last night. Skrtel's injury was a blow as he may have kept Drogba(diver) quiet, who for all his unsavoury antics, provided two magnificent finishes. In the end, with Babel's last gasp 30 yarder, we ran them pretty close. If we take off Riise's og, then we go through. Not that it may have played out exactly like that if we had taken a 1-0 lead to their place, but it goes to show that we weren't far away. They just had too much for us.With a heavy heart, they probably deserved it, but that's difficult to stomach as there's not much to admire about the arrogant London boys and their manufactured fans.

Whatever happened last night, we are still Liverpool Football Club. I am still immensely proud to call myself a Liverpool supporter. it's obvious where we need to improve. This team will come back after the Summer, with a few fresh faces , and build for next season. I'm sure Rafa will then have the full compliment of players he believes can start challenging for the League title.Top centre forward, winger and full back. Get rid of the bokanas. So, who are we supporting in Moscow? Mancs or Chelski? What a choice......I have to wait for EURO 08 now....

You'll Never Walk Alone....

Sad not to see Liverpool make it to the final. I feel compelled to point out that if it hadn't been for Riise's own-goal in the first leg, Liverpool would have gone through on away goals after this result. But on the other hand, I do realize that if it hadn't been for that goal, Chelsea would have reacted more strongly after Liverpool scored here, and it would have been a totally different game. haha whatever.. Chelsea was lucky... first goal was offside, and Ballack’s penalty call was barely inside the box, after already having lost the ball and just as good as Hyypia’s… sigh. YNWA
